Cities aren’t always what they seem to be: traffic, chaos and pollution. Often the real face of the city lies hidden behind the scenes. The idea of this documentary was inspired by a book by Italo Calvino, in which he writes “the images of happy cities keep appearing and disappearing, hidden in the unhappy cities”; a kind of itinerary show of a choice of European cities where the invisible becomes visible. “Invisible Cities” is an off-stage theatrical performance with the aim of turning everyday-life places into stages where the discovery of that particular place’s cultural identity can come to the fore and its inhabitants can express their creative energy. The project is based on the concept of coming together and sharing; it’s not only an artistic project but also an anthropological one which will wind its way through the courtyards and the squares of Rovereto in Italy, of Carouge in Switzerland, and of Holstebro in Denmark.
